Beat Systems - Case Study

Background

Beat Systems is the recognised standard for secure mobile computing software serving UK Police Forces, Home Office Criminal Justice organisation and Local & Central Government. Beat Systems have an unsurpassed understanding of mobile data and information requirements and are widely recognised as a pioneer of mobile data communications and a deliverer of successful mobile solutions – in a wide range of challenging environments.

Problem

As part of their growth strategy, Beat Systems asked Market Transformations to look into further opportunities for their technology in other market sectors in the UK.

Solution

Market Transformations researched some key market opportunities which, on the surface, could use the secure mobile technology developed by Beat and adopted by the majority of police forces in the UK. It was agreed that the best way to conduct the market research was to approach key contacts directly and conduct interviews utilizing a structured question set. The research was conducted over two months and a report presented detailing the findings of the research and some recommendations.

Outcomes

In the assessment of the opportunities Market Transformations were able to build a clear picture of the business processes at work and where mobile technology would be an asset to potential clients. We developed a very clear picture of the points where mobile technology would work and what benefits if any would be realised by clients who adopted the technology.

It was evident that one of the markets, which had been identified as the largest potential growth opportunity, would not deliver a return on investment either for Beat Systems or, more importantly, their clients. However, there were clear opportunities in adjacent sectors and Beat Systems are currently pursuing these.

“We developed an excellent relationship with Market Transformations who helped shape the general direction of our current growth plans. Without the market research and their valuable input, we potentially could have gone down the wrong track, spending hundreds of thousands of pounds in a market place that didn’t actually need our solution."
